The
"Kehlsteinstrasse" is Germany's only high alpine road and a
masterpiece of engineering ingenuity. Adolf Hitler's former teahouse is
located there. Today's Kehlsteinhaus (at 1835 m) is a mountain restaurant
with an excellent view on the mountains of Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. In
only 13 months, a street was built by dynamiting the solid Kehlstein rock.
Its constructional is unique anywhere in the world. The massive height gap
is bridged with only one hairpin bend, and the steep northwest side of the
Kehlstein is crossed twice.
Note: Access is only possible with special Kehlstein
busses; the road can only be used from May to October
