"Glück
auf!" (Good luck!)
With
this traditional greeting, the miners have been welcoming their guests
into the Berchtesgaden salt-mines for almost 500 years. When Berchtesgaden
was still a collegiate church, only select people were allowed to visit
the salt-mine. Today, it is open to everybody who wants to learn something
about the white gold, the origin of salt, and about brine, the raw
material. Follow us on a mysterious underground tour. A fascinating world
and an adventure for young and old.

Visit the Berchtesgaden Salt-Mine
duration
approx. 2 hours
Dressed
in traditional miner's clothing, you will use the mining railroad to drive
about 700 metres, deep into the mountain. Your way continues over
thrilling slides and through dark tunnels. It leads through the impressive
arch of the disused Emperor Franz salt-mine, past the colourful salt
grotto which is dedicated to the Bavarian fairy-tale king Ludwig II. With
a raft, you will quietly float across the mysterious salt lake and witness
a magical display of light. In the salt museum, old pit lamps, tools,
utensils and display cases illustrate the mining work of today and the
past.
